Market impact

Market impact is how much your own buying (or selling) moves the price against you. It grows with order size and shrinks with how patiently and widely you spread the order.

The square-root law

Impact rises roughly with the square root of your size relative to daily volume — doubling the order does not double the impact, but it does grow. This is why a $25M clip costs more per coin than a $1M clip on the same book.

How to reduce it

Spread the order across venues so no single book is over-eaten, pace it under a participation cap, and rest rather than cross where the fee allows. EnsoTrade prices all three before you trade.

How EnsoTrade measures it

EnsoTrade prices a large order against live order books across venues — which venues to use, what size each piece should be, and whether to rest an order or cross the spread. It is independent measurement, not execution: your own desk or execution partner keeps placing the orders on its own accounts, and we never touch custody, keys or funds. Before a window we price it at your real clip size on the venues you can use; after a window we score the fill with full workings. We quote no price or saving until you give your real clip size and fee stack — then the number is yours to check.

FAQ

How is market impact estimated?
A common model is the square-root law: impact scales with the square root of order size over daily volume, times volatility. EnsoTrade applies it and walks live books to price a specific order.
Does splitting across venues reduce impact?
Yes. Taking a smaller share of several books moves each one less than taking a large share of one, so a multi-venue route usually lowers total impact.
